Glad to see you have added the democracy/elections evaluation. Also pleased to see it’s near top of mind.

G. Elliott: Do you have any data showing the polling trends prior to the 1974 mid-terms elections. I just have a feeling I am seeing a repeat of that election cycle and I hope it happens.

I have to wonder if the perception that Democrats are not to be trusted on immigration, border security, deportations, and crime and public safety reflects embedded racism. I suspect that, overall, people want clear rules about immigration and deportation, and regard reasonable border security as national security.

As for crime and public safety, maybe the Democrats need to tackle that in part as an economic issue. Crime was down under Biden, whose administration was working to expand economic opportunities. It was prosecuting tax fraud among the wealthy. Of course, under Trump, we are seeing an increase in so-called white-collar crimes at the highest levels of business and government, and a lot of pardons of these people who break the law.

People regret voting for Trump in 2024 but would still vote for him again? I do not understand their thinking. What do they imagine he would do differently in a third term?

What differences appear in the data for likely voters than registered voters?

how do you measure buyer's remorse for voting for Harris? It would seem such a remorseful voter would need to be happy with what Trump is doing and regrets having voted for Harris instead. Or is it more complicated than that? If it is, why?

Maybe some Harris voters regret voting for her and would have rather stayed home? Not sure.

How can Trump be under water on border security? Interactions on the border are drastically lower than in the Biden years and the news media (presumably FOX included) isn't reporting/showing waves of migrants flooding the US. Could it be that once a politician goes "south" on a few key issues (economy and war) then all the issues begin to flip?

Don't you remember Biden. Until the evacuation from Afghanistan, he was doing pretty good but after that he could never catch a break in the polls.

That is exactly right!

43% will still support generic Republicans in the next election? I don’t understand that mind set at all. What happened to their critical thinking skills?

Robert Betker's avatar

I have family members who only vote Republican and they get all their news from Fox. They don't see what is going on outside their little world.

But don’t they see the rising prices of everything?

Robert Betker's avatar

They do, but they place the blame on greedy companies or something else.
