I was happy to see a discussion of how the upcoming elections could be tilted to favor republicans, but with all respect I don't think you guys are going far enough. One of the first things the Trump administration did, all the way back in February, was eliminate practically all federal support for countering foreign mis- and dis-information, fire basically everyone who worked on securing election machines *physically* against foreign cyber attacks, and reassign a bunch of FBI and CISA employees who worked in these areas.

Kristi Noem said it was because they were going to rely on "private companies" to manage these threats but if that means companies owned by Elon Musk or Peter Thiel then thats almost worse than having no security at all. We've basically unilaterally disarmed in the face of foreign state manipulation of the voting systems, whether physically or by social engineering.

Way more people need to realize the seriousness of the situation we're in, and I don't think nearly enough Americans have realized it yet.

I recommend Arlie Hochschild's interview with David Leonhardt on the shame of the left behind blue collar coal country workers (identical to the story of the North British coal miners Fiona Hill talks about ) https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/opinion/trump-kentucky-loyal-voters.html?campaign_id=39&emc=edit_ty_20250621&instance_id=156942&nl=opinion-today&regi_id=21979427&segment_id=200372&user_id=fc5a5feccefed441688c186866dcef86

Pull quote: If the left continues to shun and castigate, and separate itself from the white, blue-collar class then I think we could slide further in the direction of autocracy. Because whatever the policies, these voters are following the story and the emotional payoff of that anti-shaming ritual. So we have to stop the story, reverse the story: Nobody stole your pride, we’re restoring it together.
