I suspect the true nature of the public’s perspective about this action will depend on what happens in the coming days and weeks. I imagine it would gain support if regime change actually occurred. And foreign policy initiatives have long been used by presidents to compensate for popularity woes. Perhaps this may best be seen as Trump’s “Hail Mary“ pass attempt.
But Trump thinks he can just go in there and drop a few bombs and not send troops. Now Iran is shooting missiles into Dubai and Qatar, and Pakistan has thwarted an attack against a US Consulate.
3 Americans have already died.
And the Iranian government is still intact, as is the military.
What is Trump’s goal? He certainly didn’t bother to tell us. Based on his Venezuela stunt, he is simply using the US military to carry out a personal vendetta against a foreign leader who pissed him off. Maduro is gone, but his people are all still there. Nothing changed. We now know the ayatollah is dead. I suspect that’s all he wanted and that he will now lose interest. But Iran isn’t Venezuela. They might actually fight back.
They are fighting back. Hitting places like Dubai and Qatar is not an accident. Neither is not hitting Saudi Arabia. Trump's money sources are getting payback, which won't be popular.
