I’m wondering how much senators mulling over the budget bill are weighing current polling over it. There is time and room for them to understand how unpopular it is but it is another thing for them to be confident enough to break from party ranks to be openly against it. If it goes through, I wonder how much the damages from it will be used/influential in the midterms to go after incumbents.

What about noxious, malevolent, criminal, narcissistic, pathological, amoral, vindictive, vengeful, sexual predator, stupid, ignorant, self-entitled, coward, serial liar, cruel, shallow, offensive, shameful, bullying, corrupt, incompetent, misogynistic, unethical, evil, corrupt, contemptible, evil…I could go on endlessly.

Interesting, though I imagine Trump would see this word cloud with its huge ‘great’ and ‘good’ and be well satisfied. Any underlying nuance, like the Republican-leaning voters inability to think of different words, won’t matter a bit.

So much of the voters' "in their own words" reflects the low-information quotient in politics today, and how so many tRump supporters are in the "barely follow the news" camp; the latter mostly accounts for tRump's enduring popularity with people who clearly will be palpably hurt by his and the GOP actions in Congress.

Waddya gonna do?

Thank you for the excellent anecdotal additions to your work in this piece. I appreciate a numbers guy taking the time to listen in and contextualize data. It brings it home.

I am a fan of charts, but word clouds are fun, too! Like in the indy word cloud, someone used the word "prestidigitation", which I had heard, but didn't really know the definition, but it's pretty good!

"Prestidigitation refers to the skill of sleight of hand or legerdemain, essentially the manipulation of objects with quick, subtle hand movements to create illusions or tricks."

I love it!

I always wanted to learn how to play D&D, but it hit when I was in college, and who has time?

I don't believe Trump cares - he'll be able to line his pockets and let his narcissism fly for years. I wonder about republican politicians - they must be more afraid of primaries than general elections.

Trump might not care about his approval (I’m not so sure about this personally) but I think it helps the public to contextualized the data

"contextualized"

As if that's a homogeneous process

I agree completely and this is a very helpful post for understanding. It would be good if elected representatives understood just how unpopular things are and tried to do a better job of representing their constituents, including in the case of democrats doing a better job of fighting or at least being seen to fight.
