Turns out SNL provided a cogent explanation of overwhelming voter support in Season 22.
A message from the President of the United States
(Darrell Hammond as Bill Clinton SNL Season 22, Episode 6)
“America I come before you tonight to thank you for reelecting me. I know half of you didn't vote but of the half that did almost half voted for me. And I appreciate that overwhelming show of support. 49% of the less than 50% of you who voted said yes to Bill Clinton. That kind of groundswell tells me I'm on the right track. Less than half of the less than half of the people who voted stood up and demanded four more years. That means one out of every four of you are helping me build that bridge into the next century and I thank every 4th one of you for your unanimous support. But actually when you think about it, it's not really everyone you know one out of every four Americans because there's you know another 30% of you out there who aren't old enough to vote. But still I'm thrilled by the huge support I was given by the half of the half of the remaining 70% of you because that is still a whopping 17% of you who enthusiastically supported Bill Clinton.”
I'm confused, Elliott, re "YouGov reported last May that net approval of Trump among non-MAGA Republicans was down 40 points since inauguration day, and that figure is probably even larger now. About 27% of non-MAGA Republicans now hold a somewhat or very unfavorable view of Trump." HOW CAN non-MAGAt R approval fall by 40 points but only 27% unfavorable?!
Making one blundering mistake after another only helps keep Trump-aligned forces in check. So if believing he has 100% approval of anything props up either his ego or some fantasy he has that such utterances are nudging the public opinion needle in his direction, I say have at it. It will only inspire his next silly move.
What Enten doesn't say is how they determined the pool of MAGA Republicans. You can ask it different ways. You will get the biggest n-size if you ask self-identified Republicans if they consider themselves MAGA or not. You will get more if you don't include a not sure and if you also ask Independents who say they lean Republican in a followup question. You will get much fewer if you determine MAGA by asking Republicans to pick MAGA from a list of identities that include moderate, conservative, and Libertarian. Even fewer if it is single choice vs. multiselect. This stuff matters if you are going to make a declaration like this that will be used as a weapon by Trump and his allies. My guess is they defined MAGA in the most narrow way and didnt ask strongly/somewhat approve. Thats the only way to get a 100% result
I pretty much stopped watching mainstream news during the felon's 1st term. It was a preserve my sanity thing. I briefly watched it for a short time around the 2020 election. Didn't take long for me to be disgusted by their coverage of Biden And I wasn't a Biden fan! looks like I'm still not missing anything.
& here's the thing about CNN (Enten is just following editorial/management direction) CBS, NBC (didn't they settle with the felon?), ABC (they settled for ~$15M with the felon), etc. They chose to throw their reputation away to stay on the felon's good side for $.
"What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?"
It's bad enough the Enten clip gives the WH a talking point. It's all to easy to conclude that Trump BELIEVES the 100% number is some true measure. Really shameful that Enten is enabling that.

Take Saturday as a writing Sabbath.

Goes to show the consequences of poll-tertainment coverage like this can be severe

The key point is what was in the article - Enten is smart enough to know perfectly well what he is doing. Perhaps buttering up his likely new bosses.
I minored in stats. What I remember most was a professor's quote from a favourite author, Mark Twain... “Figures don’t lie, but liars do figure.”
I about lost my breakfast when I saw CNN’s report. Obscene. Thank you for slicing and dicing
