It’s become increasingly clear to a lot of us that fixing the (many many) problems Trump has caused will require massive reforms to the US Supreme Court. However, it is not clear how much the general public gets this (or disagrees with it).
I would love to see a poll question around this issue. Maybe a two-parter, something like this:
Q1: Which of the following statements most closely reflects your feelings about the United States Supreme Court?
A. It is functioning appropriately at present
B. Modest reforms are needed to improve the way the Court operates
C. The Court has serious problems, and major reforms are needed
D. I am not sure how well the Supreme Court is functioning
Q2: How would you feel about each of the following proposed reforms to the US Supreme Court? (Strongly favor, somewhat favor, somewhat oppose, strongly oppose, not sure):
A. Stronger ethical guidelines and enforcement of judicial ethics rules
B. Term limits for justices
C. Nomination of 2 new justices by the President each term
D. Expansion of the court by 4 new members
E. Limitation of the Court’s scope of powers by Congress
F. <other reform proposal that I left out>
(Obviously the above is just a first draft. All suggestions welcomed. I know that these are complex proposals that have to be greatly simplified to ask about them in a poll.)
I am increasingly concerned about Trump's attacks on the National Parks, Monuments, and other public lands. Mining is going to be allowed in the area above the Boundary Waters Canoe area, Bear's Ears and another National Monument have been slashed, the endangered species act is being over ridden. If we lose our public lands, they will be gone forever. Trump has also diverted National Park Service funds for his pet Washington D.C. projects which no one, especially the people of D.C. want.
And then there are the environmental questions, as Trump moves to kill any future progress on clean energy. There is rolling back of clean air and water regulations.
So, I am curious as to whether Americans value our public lands and whether they favor clean energy. I realize that I haven't formulated a question here yet, but I will try to come back and do so. Perhaps other readers could help me do so.
I think the answer is: Greed. Greed for money, power, attention, adoration, revenge,... This obviously applies to the oligarchs, the entire administration and effectively all republican politicians. It also applies to maga and to the vast majority of republicans.
A question I would be really interested in seeing responses to in a future poll:
"Would you support the passage of a constitutional amendment that establishes that the government may regulate and restrict political spending in elections?"
Not sure of how best to phrase it — could also use language like "reverse the 'Citizens United' decision" or "reduce the role of 'dark money' in funding political candidates" or something along those lines.
Great work! I’m wondering if there is any data on how people who couldn’t vote in 2024 may be likely to vote in 2026 or even 2028. My youngest is now registered to vote for the first time and I’m curious about his demographic.
I am not surprised by the public perception of Trump as more mentally competent than Biden. He is all about image and zilch on substance, so all that time and effort, along with greedy sycophants, allows him to, in the words of Nixon, "fool some of the people all of the time."
Who are the undecideds? If I remember correctly (??) late in 2024 there was a poll out of Iowa. The poll showed Democrats had a chance of winning the state but there was about 9% undecided or didn’t respond. After the election it looked like the undecideds were really Trump/GOP voters that were reluctant to admit to it

People also forget that most of Biden's appointees did an excellent job in their positions, unlike Trump's collection of incompetents.
