Grocery prices are up. Fuel Prices are up--and not just for our cars but for the trucks and planes that transport the goods we buy. Meanwhile, Trump spends the money in the U.S. Treasury and borrows against our economic future by spending on wars and vanity projects. I expect Republicans to become all about fiscal responsibility once they are in the minority. For now, they do not care.

It's really about the domestic budget gap for individuals and families. "Affordability" depends on what things cost, but also on what one has to spend.
Trump and his greedy, gilded ghouls have literally done nothing but take away from the vast majority of Americans, including most MAGAs -- a massive upward redistribution of wealth from levels that were already historical and unsustainable. The real mystery here, given that singular achievement, is that his approval rating is in the 30s and not the teens or single digits.
I think this reflects that a certain subset of your base gives you the benefit of the doubt on policy because of their optimism on how you'd deal with a particular concern. Once that bubble is burst, it's hard to get them back.
We see this with Trump. His approval has been a series of drops followed by plateaus. Some voted to get rid of just the "worst of the worst". Some voted to "cut energy prices in half and bring down grocery prices". Some voted for "not forever wars".
Each dip is when another chunk of his voters saw him fail on the reason they had voted for him and quit giving him the benefit of the doubt. And those voters are hard to get back, particularly within a 2 year congressional cycle.
There's something singularly sad about the possibility that so many Americans use the price of gas -above all else- as their sole criteria on selecting the president of our country, aka "the leader of the free world." The egocentricity ushered into American society in the 1970's (I remember when "Looking Out for #1" was at the top of the NY Times Best Sellers List for months) combined with the greed encouraged by Ronald Regan, were a toxic mix for the health of our American society, our nation's moral standing and for our ability to achieve lasting happiness.
what cheap gas? Since US attacks resumed on Iran ~2 weeks ago & the price of oil shot back up, gas in my neighborhood has gone from $3.89/3.99 to $4.29. & since the toddler is frustrated at not getting his way, I expect the attacks to continue & gas to keep going up.
