You provide such important insights so thank you! It took me a while as I was weighing out the fact that I am now paying for so many Substack subscriptions, but I appreciated reading for free while I sorted the budget. Happy to say I'm a paying subscriber now and hope to continue to be a supporter you can count on.

Yay!

I’ve been following you since you were posting from your dorm room. What a long strange trip it’s been for all of us. Thanks for all you do.

Getting to know you personally through posts like this is an incredible benefit. It adds so much color and context, that makes me that much more excited to be a paid subscriber and see where you take SIN. Thanks for sharing. And keep getting out of bed! :)

Elliott, I'm so grateful for you and your work. Yesterday, I watched Paul Krugman's interview with two old guys and worried. Krugman and his guests were fabulous but I worried that sooner than later we will lose this knowledge that comes from living and working in a field for a long time. I'm 68 years old. I am the pot calling the kettle black. Slightly depressed, I thought of the other sub stackers I admire and you quickly came to mind as one of the young people developing our collective wisdom and perspective. It might be weird to be admired for your youth. But there you have it. Here's to being a 29 year old CEO of your own freedom biz!! Bravo!

Happy for you, man. You’re doing great work and that’s worth getting paid for. I am unfortunately not yet subscribed. If I have several Stackers I support the monetary hit is prohibitive. What ya need is a by the article rate, with low payment friction. Perhaps a system across all Substack vendors…

You made me smile…..a great gift these days when almost all of what I read in the news makes me sick. Good for you to have turned adversity into a valuable creation. I wish you continuing success.

When ABC abandoned 538, I knew exactly where to turn. I’ve been following your work since The Economist. This personal note helps us follow your journey, and is an important part, in of course building subscribers, but also in creating a community of support for you personally and professionally. Your inclusion of poll questions from subscribers and your Q&As are also super smart, and a recognition that readers are also insightful contributors.

I am a data analyst by profession, and when I stumbled upon SIN, I was elated to read and share it. I remain so to this day.

Thank you!

Thank you for sharing your story! I look forward to your substack every week. Having "real data" in the times we find ourselves in is invaluable.

I’ve been following your work since you were at the Economist, but I became a paid subscriber to SIN because of the way you examine and talk about the data, making it very accessible. As a social scientist and statistician I really connect with your work.

Thank you for the forthright and honest sharing, but most of all thank you for having the courage (and support) to take this project on personally and professorially. Knowing that we can read your information as a true and accurate reflection of what is really happening in our country is critical since all the legacy media has "bent the knee" and abandoned their role as the 4th Estate and guardrail to our democracy.

Many thanks for your backstory. Ironically, it is you being willing to show your personal side that brings strength to the numbers in Strength in Numbers. So keep doing what you're doing. You've successfully filled a critical whole in the information ecosystem.
